Today we took a tour into the northern Peruvian Desert to the area where the Chimu people inhabited long before the Incas came to the area. Our first stop was at the Huaca Dragon or Rainbow Temple. The temple is surrounded by a 15 foot wall with only one entrance. The whole structure was made of adobe and had carved rainbow designs on the inner walls.
Next we went to the Chan-Chan complex which covers almost 8 square miles and is UNESCO World Heritage Site. This center was also made of bricks and then covered with adobe. Our final stop was on Huanchaco Beach to see the reed boats that have been used by fishermen for centuries
