On This Day . . .
On our second day in Cape Town, we went to Cape Winelands, a wine area just about an hour outside of Cape Town. Our first stop was in the town of Paarl, where we visited the Taal Monument which was erected in honor of the Afrikaans language. Staying in Paarl we next went to the Nederberg winery. Here we had a wine tasting and a history of the Paarl region and the winery.
Then we drove through the village of Franschhoek, to the Huguenot Monument situated at the foot of the Franschhoek Pass and the adjoining Huguenot Memorial Museum that focuses on the genealogy of the Huguenot families.
After our visit in Franschhoek, we went to the Boschendal winery. Here we had a wine tasting and then went out under the trees and had a picnic lunch.
