On This Day . . .
On March 20, 2018, we were docked in Colombo, the commercial capital and largest city in Sri Lanka. Here we took a ships tour which went to some of the religious buildings in the city.
Our first stop was at the Captain's Garden Temple, an ancient Hindu temple with a recorded history of more than 400 years. It has a beautiful colorful roof with hundreds of godly depictions. From there we traveled to Grangarama Buddhist Temple, with its unique architecture.
We then proceed to the Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque, also called the Red Mosque, which we viewed from the outside. On our way back to the ship we passed the Wolvendaal Church or the Dutch Reformed Church, now renamed the Christian Reformed Church, still bears the initials J.V.S.V.G. and was finally completed in 1757.
On our way out of Colombo the sun illuminated the skyline with a golden aura.
