On This Day . . .
On March 8, 2018, we docked in Hong Kong for an overnight stay, where we left the ship for a trip to Guangzhou (Canton) in China. To get to Guangzhou, we boarded a train in Hong Kong and had a 2 hour ride to the the Guangzhou train station, where we went through customs and met our guide. The Mausoleum of the Nanyue King is the oldest and largest Han tomb with the most funerary objects in Lingnan (South of the Nanling Mountain) Area and this was our first stop. From there we went to Guangzhou's Five Rams Sculpture located atop Yuexiu Hill. It was built in 1960 from more than 130 pieces of granite and is one of the city's emblems.
In the evening we took a boat ride on the Swan River. Up and down the river the boats, buildings and bridges are illuminated with different scenes and colorful light patterns.
