On This Day . . .
February 17, 2018 we were docked in Adelaide, Australia, the Capital of the state of South Australia. It is situated on the River Torrens, between Gulf St Vincent to the west and Mount Lofty Ranges to the east. We took a tour that first went to the Central Business District to see some of the colonial architecture especially some of the cut stone buildings. After the city tour we went to Mount Lofty for a panoramic view of the city below.
We then traveled to the German town of Hahndorf, that was settled by Lutheran migrants largely from in and around a small village then named Kay in Prussia. German influence is apparent in Hahndorf and is seen in the traditional fachwerk architecture of the original surviving buildings. After a german lunch of wursts, we traveled through the wine country of the Barossa Valley.
