On This Day . . .

At 600 AM on March 31, 2017, we entered the Suez Canal at the port of Suez City for a 9 hour transit to the Mediterranean Sea. The canal separates the Nile basin and the Sinai Peninsula the later being all desert. In the canal many local fishermen in their small boats fish around the shore and bouys avoiding the large ships passing through. In February of 2016, a new section of the canal was opened allowing for ships to pass one another. There is lots of activity, such as continuous dredging in the canal, several ferry crossings and even a new city being built in the desert.
