On This Day . . .

We docked in Phu My, Vietnam on March 7, 2017, an industrial port half way between Ho Chi Minh City and Vung Tau. Since we went to Ho Chi Minh City last year we decide to go to Vung Tau, a coastal resort area situated on a peninsula which was about an hour drive from the port. Our first stop was at Jesus Statue Park, which had mosaic walls and stone steps that took you up to a giant Jesus statue on top of the hill. Next we went to a Buddhist Temple and then to the White Villa, the Royal Residence of Bach Dinh. We then traveled along the coast to The Bay of Boats, where fishermen where in their colorful crafts preparing for the next catch. We finished our visit at the Whale Temple, a shrine dedicate to the whale and used by the local fishermen to pray for good fishing.
