On This Day . . .

After leaving Barcelona and passing through the Straight of Gibraltar, we arrived in Cadiz, Spain on the Atlantic Ocean on April 20, 2016. Our ship was docked in the center of the old walled part of town, so walking around is the best way to visit here. The focal point of Cadiz is the Cathedral Nueva, a Roman Catholic Church built between 1722 and 1838. After walking thru the Plaza de Savilla, we went over to the Cathedral and took a self guided audio tour. The Cathedral had many side chapels, with works of art of early Spanish artists as well as a beautiful hand carved Choir and twin organs. There is also a massive crypt under the main altar. After leaving the Cathedral we walked to the Flower Market and then to the bustling Town Market, with the fish mongers and produce vendors. Leaving Cadiz, we got a view of the City walls that guards this old city.
