2016-03-27 - Dubai - Judy & Bob’s Travels

On This Day . . .

We were docked in Dubai on March 27, 2016, for a two day stay. There was lots of sand dust in the air so the skies were not very blue and the sun was partly obscured by the dust. We went to the Dubai Mall, the world’s largest with over 1200 stores. The mall also features Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, some themed shopping areas such as the Souk and a giant dinosaur skeleton believed to be 155 million years old which is on permanent display. Two other prominent features are the Dubai Ice Rink and The Waterfall, a 24-metre tall water feature with divers going into the water. After the mall we went outside to view the Burj Khalifa, the World’s tallest building and then proceeded to Dubai Creek, the old part of Dubai that was bustling, with traditional cargo Dhows, being loaded by hand with all types of goods. The creek is crossed by local water taxis or busses called Abra, small boats with a seat down the center. An hour before sunset we took the Big Bus sunset tour out into the desert. The sand dust was very heavy as we proceeded out past Bedouin Camps to our final destination Al Sahara Fort. Once at the fort there were camels to ride and a falcon for you to hold if you chose. The day ended with a night ride back to the ship.
