On This Day . . .
We docked in Sihanoukville, Cambodia on March 11, 2016. We took a tour to Kampot, a small inland town, to visit the traditional market. Our first stop, was at a pepper plantation, where we saw the plants growing on trellises and the pepper pods drying in the sun. Along the roadside there were many local “gas stations” where the gas was sold by the bottle. Motorbikes were everywhere and were outfitted with homemade trailers for carrying people and cargo. Once inside the Kampot Central Market, there was everything imaginable, we saw fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, household goods, jewelry, clothes, material and people making clothes. We left Kampot and went back to the coast to a small fishing village called Roping Ropov. Most of the boats were in, and getting ready to leave on their next trip. Our last stop was at a Buddhist Temple, with monks as young as 11 years old.
