On This Day . . .

Our 2nd day in Da Nang, we went out of town to the My Son, a UNESCO World Heritage site built between the 4th and 13th Century. My Son has a number of early Hindu temples built by the Cham. On our way out to My Son we drove by the harbor with its’ fishing fleet and then passed many small farms that were in the fertile valleys as we headed toward the mountains. The temple grounds were at the foot hills of a mountainous region of the Quang Nam Province and reached by foot from the visitors center. After viewing and exploring the ruins, we returned to the visitors center for a Folkloric show put on by some local dancers. On our return to Da Nang we passed more agricultural land and small home based businesses selling such things as rice paper and bamboo for fish traps. Once back in Da Nang, we took a Bicycle Rickshaw ride around the city. Vietnam was famous for everyone using bicycles for transportation, but bicycles have mostly been replace by motor bikes. As we left Da Nang, we saw the modern skyline with lots of new construction.
