April 3, 2015, found us at the South mouth of the Suez Canal with a view of Suez City. We were to start our transit of the canal at 11:00am but did not get underway until 4 in the afternoon, so we were anchored with other ships waiting to line up to join the northbound convoy. The canal goes from sea to sea without any locks that divides the African Continent and the Sinai Peninsula, which is mostly barren desert. It is walled with a great military presence and many military outposts, with guard towers, can be seen along the shores. We passed some green areas on the African side that were irrigated by water that came from the Nile River. There were also large Dove coups as this is one of the delicacies of the region. As the sun set a mist covered the area to the West.
