2015-03-11 - Yangon - Judy & Bob’s Travels

On This Day . . .

The second day in Myanmar, March 11, 2015, we went to the Thanlyin Village a small rural community outside of Yangon and about a 30 minute drive from the ship. On the road we passed a toll, where the toll takers were on the road with buckets to collect the tolls. On the streets there were several Buddhist monks and nuns walking the streets collecting food from the community for their noon day meal. In the center of the town was the Thanlyin Market, a truly local market, with all manner of items ranging from produce, to clothing and household goods. Through out the town there were many street vendors including an ice cream vendor and a door to door brush lady. You can notice that the faces of many of the ladies, in the photos, painted their faces with Burmese traditional cosmetic named Thanakha, which they use to protect their skin and for beauty purpose.
