On April 10, 2014 we approached Ascension Island and at 9:30 am we were 30 miles away but we could clearly see the island. By 11:30 am we were just outside Georgetown where we were to tender ashore, however the seas were too rough so we did a circumnavigation of the island instead. While cruising around this volcanic island it was evident that this was a military outpost with many caves drilled into the volcanic mounds. We passed the BBC Relay station and the US Military Base as well as many interesting and colorful rock formations.
