Colombo, Sri Lanka was our port of call on March 15,2014. We decided to go to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage outside Rambukana about 56 miles from Colombo. We boarded a coach to take us to the Fort Railway Station where we started a rail journey to Rambukana. From there we had a 30 minute bus ride to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. At the orphanage we had lunch at the Pinnalanda Hotel as we watched the elephants below us bathing and frolicking in the river. After our lunch we entered the orphanage to see the feeding of the baby elephants and to watch them grazing on the savannah. We completed our visit and returned to Colombo retracing our steps.
