On This Day . . .
After a day at sea we sailed into Noumea, New Caledonia at 10 AM on February 7, 2014. We left the ship by 10:20 AM and in the cruise terminal we signed up for a tour which went to the Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre, which was our main place to see on this island. The tour first stopped at the Church of the Conception, a catholic church built in 1874. From there we went to the cultural center where we spent an hour exploring the reconstructed Kanak Village and the museum. We then proceeded to Ouen Toro Park where the Australians had placed guns to protect Noumea in WWII. From this location there were some excellent views of Noumea and the island.
