On This Day . . .
On January 29, 2014 we sailed into the lagoon in Bora Bora and dropped anchor. We had just been here in February of 2013 (see Bora Bora 2013), so we took in the town of Vaitape, which is where the ship’s tenders dock. As soon as we got off the tenders we were greeted by welcome singers on the pier in front of the craft market. The craft market featured shell jewelry and black pearls. Leaving the craft market, we proceeded to Main Street, passing some local produce vendors on our way to the Protestant church. We then turned around and went by some local souvenir and black pearl shops. In the shade of a large tree some local singers invited us to sit and enjoy their music. The band had one unusual instrumentalist, who played a washtub bass, harmonica and had small cymbals attached to his left shoe. After exploring the rest of the small town we returned to the ship and took in the beauty all around us.
