March 21st. After 8 days at sea we docked in Funchal, Madeira at 8:00am on a bright sunny day. We left the Prinsendam after breakfast at 9:15 am and decided to walk the half mile into town along the new promenade even though a shuttle bus was provided. We ventured past the church and strolled the narrow streets until we came to the market, with it’s flowers, vegetables and fish stalls.
From the market we went over to the cable car and took it up to Monte where we had a cappacino and enjoyed the views of the city below. Returning to Funchal we had lunch at a local restaurant. We then returned to the market where we bought some flowers for our room before returning to the ship.
