2016-04-18 - Barcelona - Judy & Bob’s Travels

On This Day . . .

Barcelona was our port of call on April 18, 2016. We took the 15 minute shuttle into town which let us out by the Customs House. We then proceeded to Columbus Square where the Columbus Statue and Port Authority are located at the start of Las Ramblas. Las Ramblas is a tree lined pedestrian walkway that is in the heart of the city. Along the way there are street mimes, looking for donations. We stopped at Plaza Riel that is just off the Ramblas with is Gaudi inspired lamp posts and a basement herbolari, that dates back to 1940. It was then off to St. Joseph’s Market, one of the great markets in the world, with all types of eateries, produce, meat, poultry and fish vendors, most have been in the same spot for generations. For a late lunch we went to our favorite Basque tapas spot, Irati Taverna Basca, with their little open faced sandwiches.
