On This Day . . .
On January 22, 2016, we anchored in the lagoon of Rangiroa, one of the largest atolls in the world, outside the Village of Tituta. The atoll consists of 415 islets and sand bars and has a circumference of 124 miles. We tendered in to the Tituta Dock and were greeted by local venders and singers. We walked the main street to the Community Church and then on to the Coral Church with its’ walls made from coral. We decide to go to the Pacific Ocean side of the atoll which was reached by traveling down a straight well paved road and paralleled the Tiputa Pass. Along the way we passed several local homes. We returned to Tituta and visited the local craft market and stopped to listen to the local singers with the ladies wearing the traditional Head lei or Haku lei before returning to the ship.
