2015-03-23 - Dubai - Judy & Bob’s Travels

On This Day . . .

At 9:30 am on the morning of March 23, 2015, we approached the foggy skyline of Dubai where we docked for 2 days. We got a 2 day pass on the Big Bus Tour which is a HOHO and set out to explore the city. We immediately noticed that flowers adorned the medians and shoulders of the highways. Windcatchers are a traditional Persian architectural element to create natural ventilation in buildings, were seen everywhere throughout the city. The old part of Dubai which is located around Dubai Creek, hosts both old and new architecture. The main city is all modern buildings with a 10 lane highway splitting it in half. Everything in Dubai is on the cutting edge of design and function, even the bus stops have air conditioning. It also hosts the iconic Burj al Arab, the world’s largest mall with its Dubai Fountain, and the world’s tallest building the Burj Khalifa. We ended the day as the sun set and the city was turning on its lights.
