On This Day . . .
After leaving Sydney, we started our voyage around the West coast of Australia, with our first stop in Melbourne on February 13, 2015. We once again chose the Hop on Hop off bus to travel around the city. We took a shuttle bus into the downtown area. The bus let us off on the South side of the Yarra River, so we crossed over the Yarra River Princess Bridge to the Main Square where we picked up the Ho Ho Bus. We traversed the city seeing the major sites such as the Euruka Tower, Melbourne Star and the Queen Victoria Market. Melbourne has the largest urban tramway network in the world, with some vintage trams still operating today. The Victorian era architecture is spotted throughout the city in the homes and public buildings. We stopped at Federation Square where the iconic Flinders Street railway station and St. Paul’s Cathedral are located. We returned to the ship passing the Queen Victoria Gardens and Fort Phillips Bay.
