2014-02-05 - Fiji - Judy & Bob’s Travels

On This Day . . .

After crossing the International Date Line, thus loosing a day, we arrived on the Island of Viti Levu in Fiji on February 5, 2014. We docked in the port of Lautoka about 3 miles outside the center of town. In the morning we took a tour to the town of Nadi with our first stop at the Vuda Point Marina. Here we watched several demonstrations including coconut husking and palm frond weaving. Leaving the marina we passed many sugar cane fields and distant mountain scenery on our way to Nadi. Just outside of the town was the Sri Siva Subramaniya temple, the largest Hindu temple in the South Pacific. Since Fiji was one of the last vestiges of Cannibalism we had to shop for a cannibal fork when we were in Nadi. In the afternoon we took the shuttle bus into the town of Lautoka, so we could visit the municipal market to see all the local produce.
